Bernie Deekens is producer and curator at TAAK. Through art she wants to become involved in various issues so as to allow new ways of thinking and share visions leading to new forms of cooperation. In light of the current conflicts characterizing today’s Europe Bernie wants to raise art’s profile in the public debate.
Bernie studied art history at the University of Amsterdam. From 1995 until 2001 she worked at W139 as a staff executive producing its many (international) exhibitions. She also curated Hellenistic (photography) there. Until 2005 she was the Prix de Rome coordinator at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten. Here she was responsible for assisting the nominated artists during their work periods, the judging process, maintaining numerous contacts with national and international partners and editing the annual publication.
As of 2005 she has been working as an independent curator, producer and project coordinator for and with various clients both at home and abroad. Clients include the Mondriaanstichting, Fonds BKB, Rijksakademie, SKOR, Witte de With, De Appel, Kunstvereniging Diepenheim, Hasselt/Genk, Groninger Museum, Grensevent and many artists.
